There was an opportunity today to get some feedback on some of your text work and act on any advice that was given to you. By now you have had three hours working on drafting your text and this should be plenty of time to get all of your text drafted. We are now moving into a series of controlled assessment lessons which will be used to compile and produce your final products. We will start off with a group of four lessons to get the bulk go the work done. Make sure that you are gathering your photos or arranging a time to get the images taken outside of lessons because it would be much better to have these images at the start of the production process than left at the end. With your analysis nearing completion you are will be moving on to creating your CD artwork soon. You need to consider how you are going to represent your artist on your cover. This is the audience's first impression of the artist and they will make assumptions about the style of music and content based on this. If Ms Spears here had used this image on the cover of her Debut album, would she have had the success she has over her career so far? Doubtful. What style of music does this editied (very quickly edited!) version suggest? What evidence is there here for that? These are the kind of questions that you must consider as you begin deciding on styles and options for your CD artwork. To create a thoroughly thoughtful representation you will need to draw upon all of your knowledge and understanding of representation that you have been displaying throughout your analysis. All decisions need to be accounted for; colour schemes considered using Semiology, choise of clothing and setting is extremely important, what facial expression should your artist be performing. Think analytically about your artwork, demonstrate your understanding in a well thought out piece of coursework. Over half term you will be set some pre-production tasks to get you ready to create the product when we come back. Keep your eyes on your blog! Today we looked at signs in media. You had a try at identifying the Sign = Signifier/Signified for a sign of your choice and identify the correct elements. To see if you grasped the concept I'd like you to try again. As a reminder here is one suggestion taken in class. Leave your suggestions for Sign = Signifier/Signified below.
On Wednesday we began looking at Representation Theory and how it shapes our view of the world. We looked at ideas of masculinity and femininity with an activity where we discussed which toys and jobs are considered to be more suitable for males or females. It used to be widely believed that dolls are for girls and toy cars are for boys, men were mechanics and women were cleaners.
Why have our views of masculinity and femininity changed in recent years, what has affected how we think of men and women? Leave a comment below with your thoughts. |
